BOULDER
- The No. 4 University of Colorado Division II men’s ice hockey team prepares to take on the No.9 University of Nevada-Las Vegas to kick off regional play.

Last weekend, the Buffs went 2-0, beating the Division I Arizona Wildcats 6-5 and the Denver Pioneers 8-2. These victories not only improved on their record to 23-7-0-1, but landed them a spot in regional play this upcoming weekend.

“We’re really looking forward to traveling and competing as a team this weekend,” said forward Alex Lencioni. “We have been training hard all week and are ready for some tough competition.”

This will be the second time in the 2011-12 season that Colorado will be competing against UNLV. The first encounter the Buffs had with UNLV they outplayed them 6-1.

“While it was a high scoring game for us the last time we played the Rebels, we’re prepared for them to come back strong,” said forward Tyler Moore. “If our team backs down at all, it’ll be the end and we want to go as far as we can.”

The Buffs first game will be on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in San Jose, Calif. at Sharks Ice Arena in Fremont. If Colorado wins this contest they will advance and play again on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. Both games will be played in Pacific Standard Time.
