FREMONT, Calif. – The No. 4 seeded University of Colorado Division II men’s ice hockey team was defeated 4-3 on Saturday by the No. 9 seeded Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels in the first round of the ACHA West Regional Tournament at Sharks Ice.
The Buffaloes finish their season with a 23-9-0-1 record while UNLV will play Colorado State on Sunday with a spot to the National Championship tournament on the line.
CU led 2-1 after the first period, but UNLV roared back in the second with three goals and led 4-3 after 40 minutes. The Buffs rifled shot after shot at the Rebels goaltender throughout the third frame but were unable to get any pucks past him.
This is the second straight year in which Colorado’s season ends at regionals. CU fell to Northern Arizona in the first round of last year’s postseason tournament.
