The #1 CU Hockey team moved their unbeaten streak to eight games after two big wins last weekend against the Oregon Ducks and the Denver Pioneers. The Buffs are currently 18-1-3 for the season and are first in the ACHA West Standings.
The Buffs were without three of their best players during the weekend home games: Scott Tittle, Andy Neitenbach, and Jeff Neitenbach. Currently, Tittle is second on the team in points with 30, while Andy is fourth with 26 and Jeff fifth with 25. Freshman Conor Williams leads the team in goals and points with 17 and 32 respectively.
On Friday January 11th against Oregon, the Buffs found the back of the net six times in their 6-2 victory over the Ducks. It was an intense back-and-forth matchup, until Colorado scored three times in the third to runaway with the victory.
Kevin Alpert and Conor Williams both finished with three points each, with Alpert getting two goals and an assist, while Williams finished with a goal and two assists.
On Saturday, Colorado faced off against the DU Pioneers for the third time this season, and squeaked out another win. The Buffs beat the Pioneers on October 12th and 13th by close scores of 5-3 and 7-5. In this game Colorado would need overtime to find the win, as they beat Denver, 4 to 3.
Denver jumped out quick scoring three goals in the first and taking a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission. The lone Colorado goal was by David Ludwig with 4:26 remaining in the period.
Luckily for the Buffs, DU wouldn’t score anymore and could start to chip away at the Denver lead.
They would do it in the second as the Captains, P.J. Bevan and Chad Wetzel would both score to tie the game at three going into the third period.
No goals were scored in the third, but Conor Williams would get the game-winner in overtime for Colorado. Sophomore Max Myers, had assists on all four goals for the Buffaloes.
Colorado will play three games in Oklahoma on January 18th to the 20th with two against the University of Oklahoma and one against Central Oklahoma.
CU will return home to play the USC Trojans on January 25th at the CU Ice Rink inside the CU Student Recreation Center. The puck drops at 7:30 PM and admission is free to the public.
